Moodle is like a virtual classroom. A Moodle homepage acts just like a website does. Teachers can post links to the class calendar, links to assignments that need to be completed, an online syllabus, and discussion forums. This gives students the ability to find information they may have missed because they were absent from class. Teachers can also create and give tests, monitor students’ activity, edit content and organize grades. The teacher has total control of the learning environment. Here is a video that explains Moodle a little more in depth.
After going to the Moodle website, I found some more video tutorials that helped me understand Moodle better. Since I am not a teacher yet, or in a class that uses Moodle, it is hard for me to use the software. I am very interested in it, however, and wish to learn as much as I can so that I can incoproate it into my classroom in the future.
Here is a video that shows you how to create a lesson in Moodle. This will come in handy when we are all teaching!
I think that Moodle is a great technology for students and teachers. It is a productive online activity for students and it makes students more aware of what they need to be doing in their classes. It also gives parents the opportunity to see what their children are learning in school and also get a report of how they are doing in school through their gradebook. Moodle is very similar to our class we take through Oncourse, which is a very helpful resource. I think that everyone should check out the video tutorials and website and think about using Moodle in your future classrooms :)

Delicious link
Here is a link to my delicious site. While it was a bit time consuming, I know that I will appreciate having all of my bookmarked items in one spot. I looked at other students' delicious links as well and found some great resources. I have bookmarked lots of interesting sites and articles about teaching, feel free to explore!
Podcasting
Podcasts are multi-media files, generally audio and video, that are distributed via the internet for play on personal devices like Ipods. It is sort of like blogging meets Tivo. People download or subscribe to the podcasts that they want to hear/view. Many podcast authors use syndication programs like ITunes, where subscribers automatically get the updated podcast when they connect their device.
I had never podcasted before, so this was a learning experience for me. It really was not that difficult, however. I found a good Tutorial on Youtube that helped me alot. I recommend future students to use this tutorial for help.
I decided to do an easy podcast of something silly like 'Leslie's Random Fact of the Day.' I wrote my script, recorded my voice onto my computer, and then mixed an mp3 music track with my voice. I made two recordings so that it demonstrated the different episodes of my podcast. Then I uploaded my recordings to a public webserver. Then I embeded the audio player in my blog, allowing my podcast to play on my blog.
I loved this assignment because I think it will benefit me greatly in my future classroom. For example, if one of my students missed class I could upload an audio or video recording to my blog so that the student could attend class virtually and not fall behind. Also, if students had questions out of the classroom, they could submit them to me via email and I could respond on my blog with a podcast of the answer. That way I could help other students who most likely would have the same question. I think that emerging technologies such as podcasting will be a great help in future classrooms, such as mine.

My name is Leslie Kesler and I am a student at IUPUI where I am majoring in Elementary Education. I just recently transferred from the University of Kentucky after completing two years. I loved it there but I am very happy to now be closer to my hometown of Carmel, Indiana. Above is a picture of my friends from college at the Keeneland racetrack in Lexington, KY(I am the second from the left).
Creating a blog was very simple to do. I went to the blogger.com website and watched the video tutorial which pretty much walked me through the entire process.
It took me a little while to figure out how to upload a picture but after some time I got it to work. After creating my blog I added pictures, hyperlinks, and changed the font and colors of my blog. I am really glad that I allowed myself alot of time to create my blog, because I cannot imagine doing this if I was rushed. I suggest for future students to give themselves plenty of time to create their blog and watch the video tutorial.
Also, whenever a student runs into trouble they should visit the Blogger help site. This site helped with all of my questions.
I have never had a blog before and I am very excited to use one from now on. It kind of reminds me of a journal which is something I have always wanted to keep. I am excited to continue blogging on here and hope you enjoy my page!
